Join us for a chance to rehearse and then perform some of the best and most brilliant opera choruses. What a great way to spend a Saturday!
Pieces covered will be from a selection including:
Borodin - Polovtsian Dances, Bizet - March of the Toreadors,
Puccini - Humming Chorus, Verdi - Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves,
Handel - Chorus of the Enchanted Islanders, Wagner - Procession and Chorale from Die Meistersinger, Mozart - Priests' Chorus,
Tchaikovsky - Waltz scene and chorus from Eugene Onegin,
Rimsky-Korsakov - Procession of the Nobles
We shall be singing from the Oxford Opera Choruses vocal score edited by John Rutter.
Whether you are new to choral singing or have years of experience why not come and spend the day enjoying these wonderful choruses? This is definitely a workshop not to be missed!
Richard Laing
As conductor of the Nottingham Harmonic and Leicester Bach choirs Richard has established a reputation as one of the most exciting and versatile conductors in Britain today. His dynamic approach to choral training has resulted in memorable performances by his choirs with such orchestras as the Hallé and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. He also has many years’ experience of leading Come and Sing workshops. His engaging style and inspiring musicianship make these days very special for all participants.
Simon Hogan
Simon is the Accompanist to the Nottingham Harmonic Choir. He is also Assistant Director of Music at Southwell Minster, having studied at the Royal College of Music, and held posts at Bristol, Salisbury and St. Paul's Cathedrals. Simon regularly gives recitals in cathedrals and churches around the country and his recent disc of organ music from Southwell Minster has been well received by critic and enthusiast alike.
Our venue
The Nottingham Emmanuel School is situated on Gresham Road just off Wilford Road in West Bridgford and ample parking is available on site. There is disabled access to the building and all facilities for the day are contained on the ground floor.
